The DVD of A Ballad of the West

A four-camera digital video shoot of a concert version of Bridger痴 highly-acclaimed epic trilogy, the DVD of A Ballad of the West features renowned studio musicians John Inmon, Bob Livingston, Darcie Deville, and Steve Samuels and was videoed on location in early May, 2004 at Nick Meagher痴 majestic T-Bone Ranch in Antonito, Colorado. Nestled between the Sangre de Christo and San Juan mountain ranges, the T-Bone Ranch is blessed with the same magic light that painters have traveled to nearby Taos, New Mexico for decades to capture in paintings. Aside from mixing and mastering the three-and a half hour soundtrack, Bridger and director Peter Wilson have spent the past six years editing the breath-taking photography of premiere Wyoming landscape and wildlife photographer, Dewey Vanderhoff and rare 16mm footage of the meticulous recreation of mountain man rendezvous and costumes into Seekers of the Fleece, over one-hundred photographs of William F. Cody, Wild West posters, and rare 16mm footage of Buffalo Bill痴 Wild West into Pahaska, and Edward S. Curtis痴 classic photography of Sioux Indians in Lakota.

Quest of an Epic Balladeer
A film by Peter Wilson

British filmmaker Peter Wilson, his son, Rupert, came to the United States in the winter of 2003 to begin a documentary film based on the life and work of Bobby Bridger. The filmmakers began the project traveling to Nashville, Tennessee to interview and video legendary studio musician and record producer Fred Carter, Jr. The original lead guitarist in The Hawks (later The Band) Carter also played in the studio and on stage with Simon and Garfunkel during their glory days as well as literally scores of iconic American musical talent over the latter half of the twentieth century. Fred Carter discovered Bridger and started his recording career in 1967. From Nashville the documentary team flew to Phoenix to interview and video legendary Broadway playwright and Hollywood screenwriter, Dale Wasserman (Man of LaMancha, and One Flew over the Cuckoo痴 Nest). Next, the Wilson痴 drove from Phoenix to Tucson to interview Lakota author and philosopher, Vine Deloria, Jr. (Custer Died For Your Sins, and God Is Red) and Lakota folksinger/movie star, Floyd Red Crow Westerman (Dances With Wolves, and Northern Exposure). Before departing the far Southwest, Wilson and son visited novelist/screenwriter Max Evan (The Rounders and The HiLo Country) in Albuquerque and videoed their interview. Finally, the filmmakers gathered Bridger痴 oldest Austin friends and musical colleagues John and Jim Inmon, Bob Livingston, and Bridger痴 old friend and former partner in the decade of full-company theatrical productions of A Ballad of the West, Joe Sears (the Greater Tuna series of hit comedies) The seventy-one minute film chronicles the evolution of A Ballad of the West over its long life and is the perfect compliment to the DVD of the epic trilogy.

NEW Title! Songs From A Ballad Of The West

Available now!

"I hope separating these songs from the masterwork will free them to be appreciated simply as music, yet I hope they will simultaneously attract the curious listener to the broader, more intricately layered historical narrative presented in the four disc recordings of my complete epic trilogy. With these purposes in mind, I selected songs that present the poetic and musical essence of each unique part of A Ballad of the West. In order to stay true to the concept of allowing the songs to be appreciated on their individual merit, however, I have sequenced the songs musically rather than historically."

Buffalo Bill & Sitting Bull : Inventing the Wild West

This biography of William Cody focuses on his lifelong relationship with Plains Indians, a vital part of his life story that, surprisingly, has been seldom told. Bobby Bridger draws on many historical accounts and Cody's own memoirs to show how deeply intertwined Cody's life was with the Plains Indians.
